The first step to conscious living is recognizing there is a constant narrative in your head and it’s not you. Until I realized that I believed everything I thought until someone else told me different.
The narrative and stories that our mind is constantly repeating are seldom truth or inspiration. I remember reading a stat that said 95% of our thoughts everyday are repetitive, and the majority of them are not even yours.
When you really start paying attention to what you’re thinking and where those thoughts came from, you will begin to notice other people’s words get into your head and repeat over and over.
That’s fine when their words make you feel good, it’s detrimental when their words spark fear in you.
The same is true for your words.
If you choose your words carefully and use them wisely you can make change by using the right mix of words.
A few things to consider when choosing words that will make change:
- Clarity and simplicity are paramount. If the message isn’t clear it won’t penetrate.
- Timing matters. The energy has to be right for the words to be heard
- Minimize resistance. Dropping a few very carefully chosen words and leaving the subject alone allows them to slide in effortlessly. If you lecture or argue you are giving the other person time to fight you. When they fight you, they can disregard the message.
It’s important to allow the words to slip into the consciousness of the other person and let the energy of the words to work. The other person may argue with his or herself and that’s perfect, let them. That means the words are doing their job.
