Hearing is not the same as listening.
Hearing means you recognized there was a sound. Maybe it was words, or maybe it was a noise. Either way you heard it.
Listening is understanding why the words are being spoken or the sound is being made.
Hearing is passive. Listening is active and it takes effort.
A good listener figures out where the other person is coming from, what they are trying to say, and how they are feeling.
A good listener reads between the lines and validates the other person
When you are talking to someone who is a good listener you feel validated and connected.
Just because you hear what someone is saying it doesn’t mean you are listening to then.
