I would love to live in a world where ego doesn’t exist.
Ego is at the root of separation amongst us, and occasionally when I notice it in others I feel a bit agitated… a sure sign that’s alive and well in me.
Ego is tricky.
It creeps in and takes over when you’re least expecting it, often when you’re distracted by doing something you’ve never done before. It boosts you when you’re doing something you’re unsure of, but that’s the old way of doing things. It was needed in the days when resources were limited and people were naive.
Now we live in a world where we appreciate vulnerability and curiosity because they are rare. We are drawn to truth tellers, and leaders who lead from the heart. Once we’ve seen this with our own eyes, ego is a turn off.
Resistance comes from ego.
Shyness comes from ego.
Hesitation comes from ego.
Hiding comes from ego.
I’ve done them all, and almost always my fear of loss was at the root. Fear of loss also comes from ego.
When you begin to see the only thing you have to lose is an opportunity, you start to move through the world differently.
When you begin to realize that your ego is the only thing holding you back from learning, from trying, and from making connections with new people, you will find it easier to let down your guard.
It becomes clear that ego separates you from everything you want to be and all of the places you want to go, and then it will be important to try to move beyond it.
But ego is tricky, and it pops up when you least expect it.
