About 5 – 6 years ago Oprah interviewed a lady named Brene Brown.

This lady’s work changed my life.

Before Brene Brown I didn’t know what vulnerability or shame were. I didn’t know how they felt inside of me and I didn’t know how they looked in other people.

I dove into her work and listened to her Ted talks several times, searched her up on every podcast I could find and listened to talks of hers on audible.

At first I didn’t really like her. I actually didn’t like her for a long time, but her message kept drawing me back. I didn’t think I needed to like her to learn from her, but I knew I didn’t understand the things she was talking about.

This many years later, I am still learning about shame and vulnerability and connection.

The more I learn how they feel inside of me, the more I like Brene Brown. As a matter of fact I love listening to her now and I’ve decided that all of the reasons I didn’t like her before was because she held up a mirror for me to see things I didn’t like about myself.

Now that I know what vulnerability is and how it works, my heart fills up when I see someone else being vulnerable. I know how hard it is.

Now that I know what shame feels like and how debilitating it is, I have worked hard to learn empathy to help pull others out.

I see people differently now, and I certainly see myself differently too.

I would encourage you to listen to her Ted Talks (she has 2] and perk your ears up whenever her name is mentioned. She’s worked hard to make her space in the world and it’s well deserved. She knows her stuff and her stuff will change your life for the better.

Here’s the first talk I heard, I hope it gets inside of you and changes you like it did me.
