I could easily be a beach bum for a living.
But I have become one of those people who needed to increase my level of productivity. I have recognized I needed to learn from the beautifully organized Type A people in order to accomplish what I want to.
So I thought I would share some tips with you.
You really can get more done than you are giving yourself credit for – you just have to learn how to use your time wisely.
Here are a few things I have learned:
Give yourself 10 minute sprint work sessions.
Sit down to produce something and only give yourself 10 minutes to accomplish it – you would be surprised how much you can get donw in 10 minutes when its all the time you have. If you don’t finish, walk away and come back for another 10 minute sprint in a while.
Sit down to produce. Do not sit down to “work on” something. I talked about this in a blog a little while back, but its really helpful. If you commit to producing something before you sit down for a 10 minute sprint, you don’t waste time thinking, or researching, or organizing your thoughts.
At the beginning of the week, commit to doing 3 things that week that will make a difference in your life and your workload. Then every morning choose 3 things to do that day.
Stop thinking so much.
Yes you need time and space to think. But that is not what you should be doing in your work time. Give yourself white space, and then give yourself work space in your day. You need both. And some planning is required to pull it off.
Stop working.
I have burnt out, got sick, and over loaded my brain. I crashed a few times because I didn’t quit working (this was before I started doing 10 minute sprints).
No matter how much you enjoy what you’re doing you can’t do it all of the time. You can do more than you think – but then you have to stop and play.
I don’t believe we were put on this earth to “take it easy”. I don’t see the point in that, no matter how much I love the beach.
You can do more than you think if you do it wisely. And when you look back and see what you have accomplished – it feels so good.
So get going! But do in 10 minute sprints. I think you’ll be amazed
