I overheard a part of conversation in the coffee shop yesterday…
“… and then he kind of laughed, but the fact that he said it was enough…”
The lady speaking was visibly upset by his words. As I thought about what she might be talking about, I could see two different sides to her opinion of whoever he was.
The statement “the fact that he said it was enough…” holds merit on many levels. What comes out of a persons mouth says more about them, than it does about us. We can gain so much insight into people on the surface and where they are at in their journey by listening closely to what they say… if we keep ourselves from taking it personally.
But maybe “he kind of laughed” because he was talking just to talk. I don’t think any of us know what we are doing most of the time, and most certainly we aren’t our true selves the majority of the time. Usually we say things we really don’t mean out of discomfort or lack of clarity.
It struck me that possibly she was taking his words a little too seriously. So that’s my take-away and I’m grateful for the reminder… I can apply this elsewhere at the moment.
