I have been coached through many of my successful endeavours in life.

Coaches are great because they know the way and they can tell you what to do. All you have to do is exactly what they say, and you will get “there”.

Being “coachable” means you take instructions well.

I learned not to argue, not to whine, and not to ever think I know better than the coach. Even when everything seems totally counter intuitive… you do what your coach says.

And it almost always works and gets you the results you seek.

That’s one way to win, and it’s probably the quickest.

When I was going to the gym and I had an excellent personal trainer watching every move, and correcting every nuance of my form, building my training programs, and pushing me to do more than I wanted… I became lean and built muscle quickly.

When I was showing horses I had a coach find me the perfect horse, tell me how to sit, how to ride, how not to ride, and how to smile. I won often and did very well.

It’s great to start with a coach. You get to win and feel successful.

But the real learning comes when you start to teach. Even if you are only teaching yourself.

That’s when you have to figure out why doing what your coach said works.

That’s also when you figure out the basics and how tweaking those basics fixes the problems.
