If you aren’t paying attention you wont recognize all of the ways shame shows up in your life.

And if you don’t recognize it, then your shame tapes play – and they affect everyone around it.

It’s not having your house spotless when someone shows up to visit.

It’s having bad breath.

Or sweaty hands.

It’s saying the wrong thing in front of someone you are trying to impress.

It’s not having a nice enough house, or not having a house.

It’s not being able to pay for your groceries.

It might be not knowing the answer you should.

Or not being able to do the job as good as someone else.

My shame button will get pressed by a sideways comment someone makes about one of the those situations.

I can see it is their shame tape speaking. But words will get in your head and you don’t even realize it.

I will find that I’m hiding my truth because of someone else’s shame tapes playing in my head.

Shame is debilitating and paralyzing and it stops you from showing up.

If you aren’t in tune with shame or how it shows up in your life, then at least be careful with your words.

It’s possible that you are dimming peoples lights without even realizing it… just by playing your shame tapes.

And those people might be the very people whom you want to shine.

If you want your people to shine, choose love.

Love is more powerful than shame and everyone wins when love is involved.

I encourage you to learn your shame response, so that you don’t contaminate yourself … or others.

At our core, we all just want to believe we can be loved, even at our worst.
