The more I learn about ego, the more I see how destructive it can be.
The more I see how destructive it is, the more I look for the ways it shows up in my life.
Perfection, people pleasing, and shyness were the most prominent ways my ego would appear. Slowly I’ve been working on giving those up. Some days are harder than others.
Recently I realized that ego is what holds us back from speaking our truth.
Our egos will shield our core truth from us. It takes work to get to the bottom of things because our minds will take off with a story that strengthens our ego, justify our position, and resists the truth.
The truth is we are made of love, we want to love, and we want to be loved. Not in the romantic way (although that’s good too), but in a compassionate, kind and honouring what’s ‘inside’ way.
Removing the story and getting to what’s important is sometimes the only way to get there.
What do you really want?
Work at the answer to that question until you find the truth.
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.‘ – Martin Luther King
