Every once in a while on a Friday I like to share the things I’m enjoying and leave you with a few of my resources before the weekend. Today is the day!
What I’m Listening To: Akimbo: A podcast by Seth Godin, it’s not about marketing, which Seth is famous for, but it’s about society and culture, something I never used to find interesting, recently my lens has changed, thanks in large part to Seth. The podcast a new venture for him, so there are only 4 episodes so far. My favourite was the episode on status roles, and he answers more questions about status roles at the end of the episode called “I See You” which were almost better than the status roles episode itself.
What I’m Reading: A Second Chance: For You, For Me, And For The Rest Of Us by Catherine Hoke. Cat Hoke runs Defy, “a national prison rehabilitation program and incubator that transforms the hustle, and lives, of men, women, and youth with criminal histories.” But what she does is so much more than that. Typically 76.6% of people who walk out of prison return to prison. 95% of the people who go through the Defy program never return to prison. Defy runs more than 100 programs teaching character development, recovery from depression, parenting, Emily Post etiquette, technology, job readiness, forgiveness, the Five Love Languages, communication, relationships, and more. This book is a story of America’s most unforgivable people redeeming their lives and achieving success. I read it while at a hair appointment one day and was fighting back tears the whole time.
Update I’m Excited To Share: The Self Awareness class I’m offering has a Level 1, and a Level 2, and the inaugural group has decided they want to continue with their learning by doing monthly classes. It’s turning into a fun journey and it’s working. The people are building connections with each other, showing up for themselves, and making amazing changes as they become more self aware. I am loving this work and this venture.
Purchase I’ve Been Enjoying Lately: I finally bought a Keurig and I’m loving the OneCoffee line. I’m drinking the decaffeinated coffee and they have a whole line of others. The pods are certified compostable, the coffee is organic, and it is a fair trade product. It checks all of my boxes, so I feel good purchasing it. The real plus? It tastes delicious.
Quote I’m Pondering: “Do not depend on the hope of results. You may have to face the fact that your work will be apparently worthless and even achieve no result at all, if not perhaps results opposite to what you expect. As you get used to this idea, you start more and more to concentrate not on the results, but on the value, the rightness, the truth of the work itself. You gradually struggle less and less for an idea and more and more for specific people. In the end, it is the reality of personal relationship that saves everything.” –Thomas Merton
Have a great weekend everyone, and if there is something you are loving and want to tell my people all about, please share in the comments section!
Love you all!
