You can do anything your heart wants. That’s the beauty of growing up… truly the only one stopping you is yourself.
It doesn’t seem to matter how grown up we are, uncertainty is prominent because as you figure out who you are and what you want from life, the rule book and the guide book disappear.
I struggle with the juxtaposition of ‘lets try this, nobody’s done it before’, and ‘I have no idea how to do this because nobody’s done it before’. So often I wish someone would tell me what the next right thing is and to reassure me that the path I’m on is right.
But in my heart of hearts, I know that nobody can tell me what’s right for me. It feels nice when someone else tells us we are doing good, but reassurance is futile. There are days I could use it every 22 seconds.
Step by step we have to find our way, step by step we illuminate our own path.
As I look around at the people I know, the ones whose spirit is most alive are the ones who are trying new things, opening their heart to change, striving to be better than they were yesterday, and have a purpose larger than themselves. They don’t have a guidebook. They are bravely allowing themselves to grow and expand into newer versions of themselves all of the time.
That’s what you want to do. You were not born to pay bills and die.
It’s so hard to let go of the person you are in order to become the person you need to be. It feels like you will crack and crumble as you let go of all of the beliefs you have relied so heavily upon for years.
It feels impossible to change your mind about something you have relied upon as a truth. Growth and expansion ask us to do that over and over again. Just when you think you’ve cracked wide open, another one pops up. Once you have experienced it yourself, you will begin to see it in others. It’s a beautiful thing to witness a spirit that’s coming alive again.
Don’t wait for reassurance, don’t wait for the map, don’t look for the rule book. What you’re doing might not work, but there is no knowing until you try.
Reassurance comes after the fact so let your spirit come alive.
