Today is the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.
We will have 16 hours and 33 minutes of daylight today where I live… interestingly it’s 8 hours and 39 more minutes than our winter solstice.
There’s a lot of light in our lives right now.
This is my favourite time of year and I find myself wanting to savour the moments and the hours of everyday.
It’s now June and we are halfway through the year.
Some questions I’ve been thinking about…
Was there something I wanted to do that I haven’t started yet? What needs to change so that I can take the first steps toward it? (Usually there is something inside myself that needs an adjustment)
Did I have objectives for this year that have been out to the wayside? Why? Do I still want to accomplish them? (It’s important to make a mental check so that you’re not avoiding them due to internal resistance or hiding)
In what ways have I grown? What decisions did I make that helped me? Which ones distracted me? (I like to make note of what’s working and not working, and to appreciate the journey).
For years I let the busyness of life take over and rob me, I was just bouncing from one thing to the next and never assessing my priorities, my dreams or my path.
Then moving my hopes and dreams to next year or later.
I don’t want to wait for later, because I’ve learned that doesn’t work…time slips away if we let it.
It doesn’t take much time to make the most of your time, it just takes some intention.
I encourage you to shine the light on your path today.
What man can you show me who places any value on his time, who reckons the worth of each day, who understands that he is dying daily? For we are mistaken when we look forward to death; the major portion of death has already passed. Whatever years be behind us are in death’s hands. – Letters From A Stoic
