It’s so important to remember everyone is on their own journey.
My mom adopted a phrase from a friend that helps us to remember not to get too involved.
“I care, but not that much.”
This is hard to keep in check. We tell stories about imminent danger, toxic situations, and people being taken advantage of or injured… and we allow the worry to consume us.
But worry isn’t helpful.
If there is something you can do, that you want to do, that will help to improve the situation someone else is in. Then do it.
Most of the time there isn’t anything we can do.
Acknowledging the fact that whatever happens is out of your control helps to calm the worry.
You are on a journey that matters. You can (and should) care… but maybe not so much that it takes over your life.
