How To Live A Remarkable Life

On the Tim Ferriss podcast, Debbie Millman spoke about a 10 year plan for a remarkable life.

She says to write an essay about your life on April 28, 2027.  Write actual detailed paragraphs about what your life looks like on a day 10 years from today including but not limited to the following points.

  • What are you doing?
  • Where are you living?
  • Who are you living with?
  • Do you have pets?
  • What kind of house are you in?  Apartment?  City?  Country?
  • What is your furniture like?  What does your bed look like?  What kind of sheets does it have?
  • What kind of clothes do you wear?
  • What kind of hair do you have?
  • Tell me about your pets, your significant other…
  • Do you have children?
  • Do you have a car?
  • Do you have a boat?
  • Talk about your career.
  • What do you want?
  • What are you reading?
  • What are you making?
  • What excites you?
  • What is your health like?

What exactly is that day like?

Dream big and without any fear. She says to put your whole heart into it and write like your life depends on it, because it does.  Get totally caught up in your dream and know that the more detail you give, the more you see, the better.

Then read it once a year.
She’s says it’s like magic.

What I think is really cool about it is that it gives you a direction to head in.   You can make better daily choices knowing what you want.

I was telling my friend about how I am working through this plan for myself, and she said she had just mapped out on paper what a perfect day is right now for herself.

She has her personal highest values sorted out, and she knows what she’s working towards and incorporates all of what she wants into her day and delegates all of what she doesn’t want, the things that take away from her essence, out. At the end of her day she sits down to write in her gratitude journal and evaluate how the day went so she can make adjustments for the days ahead.

This is amazing and actionable so I’m sharing it with you so you can do it with me, and report back.

Would you do it with me?

Would you prefer I make a sheet that can be filled out?  Let me know!
