She’s not your ordinary superstar hero, so it took me a long time to figure out she was the one. My sister loves Anne Murray, my boys loved Spider-Man. Those heros are obvious and make sense…
Oprah is my hero.
It wasn’t obvious to me. I missed every opportunity to see her in person because of it, but I know now.
If there is one person I would be honoured to meet and sit and have a conversation with, it would be her.
I remember watching her show as a 12 year old, at that point her show would have only been a few years old.
The Oprah Winfrey Show was geared to the suburban mom, and not relevant to me at that time…but I loved her anyway.
She was real. She was human and vulnerable. She was always willing to put her weaknesses and flaws out there and keep herself on the same playing field as her guests.
She openly talked about her weight issues and let the world celebrate her weight loss, and also opened herself up to the world criticizing her weight gain. Did they ever.
She’s never the expert. She’s always the student. Through all of those years, amassing all of that wealth, and becoming the most influential woman in the world, she remained humble and teachable.
The real Oprah always shows up.
That’s bravery.
I’m listening to a 3 episode podcast right now called Making Oprah. Of course I love learning about my hero, now that I know she’s it. If you want to listen, you can do so here.
