I just want it to be over.
I want the coronavirus to be over, I want the panic to be over, I want the economic repercussions to be over, and I really want winter to be over.
I don’t want to talk about it anymore, I don’t want my inbox full of it, I don’t want to see bare shelves at the grocery store, and I don’t want to bundle up and shovel more snow.
But I know I have to be careful with those thoughts. They are resistant thoughts, and they aren’t helpful when you are in a storm of life.
Not accepting your reality is normal when it’s uncomfortable. That’s why so many people can’t make change happen on their own. We desperately want relief, and if you aren’t aware of it you back down too soon. And change never happens.
But when the storm is happening all around you, there is no backing down.
It builds resilience and tenacity whether you like it or not.
You want relief from the discomfort and the uncertainty.
The best way to find that relief is through acceptance.
Those resistant thoughts only create more tension inside of you.
Accept that this is our reality right now, and do whatever you can to learn from it. It is here to teach us something about ourselves.
Your lesson may be different than mine, but you will have one. There is lots to learn in uncertain times.
