My daughter was scrolling through Instagram the other day and a meme popped up in her feed. It asked if you had to choose one, would you rather go to jail for a year, or get back together with your ex for a year.. neither option gave me a big payoff like it should.

I chose my ex. I don’t want to go to jail and be away from my kids. I already know I can survive life with my ex. Truth be told, I am a totally different person now, and things would never be like they were before anyway, it’s possible he couldn’t survive living with me now though ?.

This got me thinking… if choosing something really hard is going to change your life for the better… is it always worth it?

The obvious answer is yes, but when we are short sighted, and making decisions to ease the pain of today… we don’t choose that thing.

We never regret making decisions in favour of our future self. Time passes faster than we think, and what seems hard now becomes a distant memory very quickly.

I have begun to understanding that when you are disciplined, a little bit brave, and do the hard things that will bring a better tomorrow, it is always worth it.

Before you know it, you will be the future self that you were choosing to live for and your whole life begins to resemble what you always thought it could.
