It takes two people in a relationship to make the relationship work. I’ve been told this forever.
You both have to try to get along.
You both have to want to be in the relationship.
You both have to set aside your differences, and you both have to care about what the other one wants.
I used to think that I could only worry about my part.
When someone told me we both had to try I would try harder to make sure I was doing my part.
Until I realized I couldn’t do it all.
I can’t care enough for both of us.
I can’t be the only one who’s trying.
I can’t fix your problems for you, or be the only one putting in the effort.
Yes, it takes two to make a relationship work, but that doesn’t always mean you have to try harder.
Sometimes you need to stop and notice whether the other person is showing up for you or not.
Once you know the value you bring you don’t have to sell your soul in order to keep a relationship in tact. It always takes two.
