Vows are really powerful. They are not just words, they are soul contracts. They create a magnetic energetic bond and carry the weight of promises, expectations, and future plans.
When I got married I was going to stay married forever. I remember vowing to myself and my friends several times that when that ring went on my finger it was staying there forever. In fact one of my prerequisites in choosing a husband was that was his parents were still together.
Divorce was not an option I was willing to entertain. And yet here we are.
Life doesn’t go as planned.
Unraveling vows and contracts and the stories you tell yourself is painful, and ugly, and hard.
Sometimes the very things you are holding onto the most will crumble in your hands.
No matter how concrete something appears, it is in fact fluid.
Everything is fluid and ever changing, and while we do have a say in the choices we make right now, we don’t have a say in how things will unfold in the future.
And that’s ok, in fact it’s quite beautiful.
You don’t know what life has in store for you, all you can do is constantly prepare yourself for the journey by becoming familiar and comfortable with change, growth and variety.
They will fill your toolbox with skill sets that are invaluable in times of turbulence.
The more you seek change, growth, and variety and incorporate them into your life, the better equipped you will be to handle the hard and unpredictable stuff when it happens.
Then one day you might wake up in a life you didn’t plan for, and find yourself enjoying it more than you ever thought you could have.
Just like me.
