I was sitting at the sound check for the music concert my children were in on Friday night.

The music teachers wife was hustling around organizing coffee and goodies and door prizes for the 4 concerts that were going to be taking place that evening.

I was the only parent there so instead of watching I wandered into the lobby and asked if she needed any help.

She said she was running out of time to get everything done, and asked if I would mind folding the programs for the evenings performance, it was a very large stack of papers.

In the 45 minutes I sat there folding, as she was hustling around, she thanked me at least 3 times, tried to excuse me twice and another time told me I certainly didn’t have to finish.

I can honestly say I have never in my life helped someone more grateful than her.

When I came back for the concert, she wouldn’t let me pay my admission, thanked me again and told me how kind I was to help her.

I literally only folded paper… but she was so grateful for the help, you would think I had just saved her first born child’s life.

She is a Canadian citizen.  Last night I found out she was born in Syria and immigrated here around 15 years ago.  Under the ban by the Trump government she can not visit her family living in the United States.

I am not the President of the United States and I don’t know all of the problems or the answers, nor do I claim to.

I know nothing is ever permanent, and there are no true endings in life.

I am a fierce believer that things happen for a reason, and somehow turn out ok, and lots of the time better in the end.

I know drastic times call for drastic measures and I also know sometimes you have to make a bigger mess before you can clean up the previous one.

But this is hard to watch.
