I don’t know anyone who starts feeling scared and enjoys it. We resist the feelings, we avoid it, and we try to be ok and act like things are fine.
Fear is irrational when we are consumed by it. The more we think about it, the more irrational we become. So we avoid it.
Until we can’t avoid it anymore.
Here is the thing.
Our feelings are energy. Energy flows and changes shape and form quickly and easily. The feelings that we don’t like feeling are temporary, but they are fed with our thoughts and the story we tell ourselves about situations.
If you can separate your feelings from the situation, you will find that the situation is neutral. You are fine and completely unattached from it.
When you start to judge the situation, you begin to formulate a story to justify your thoughts, and you trigger your emotional response.
The hardest situations can be more easily managed when you realize that you can let go of the story you are telling and see it for what it is.
If we stop running from our fears and take a moment to recognize what’s happening, it helps. It changes the story.
You are always ok, it’s the story you’re formulating that’s trying to tell you differently.
