Hi, my name is Jodi and I am a self improvement junkie.

(Everyone together: we love you Jodi)

This isn’t an AA group, and I’m not planning to recover from it but I will give you an extremely diluted version of my story.

It started with watching Oprah as a child, she was my portal to watching other people sort themselves out.  I loved the AHA! moments, and I loved it when she was moved to tears.

I went to a counselor for the first time when I was 20, and I couldn’t wait to unload on her… I was so pleased to have someone sit and analyze me and my life and to help clear emotional pain so I could do a better job of being a human.

Wayne Dyer got me through some dark times in my life.

Abraham Hicks recalibrated my way of thinking.

Then Facebook came along.  How exciting! It opened up a whole world of gurus and shared nuggets of wisdom.  I filled the memory on my iPhone with memes and quotes I saved, (when I probably should have been filling it with pictures of my kids like all other moms seem to).

I read something Seth Godin wrote recently about how people who create, need to be thanked.  People who are putting themselves out there, sharing themselves, being vulnerable to the criticism’s of others… Payment for them is to know is that they have made a difference.

Oh my!  That one set me back.   I have soaked up so much self improvement material, and I had never thanked one person for how they have changed my life!

So I sent them all emails.

Seth opened my eyes to the fact that these “gurus” are just people too… They may or may not be smarter, but they are for sure braver than most of us.   I always think bravery should be applauded.

So now, I comment on social media and blogs when someone gives me new insight, or helps me to think about something in a new way.  I engage as much as possible… Because if we were all silent, they might quit teaching…and that would be devastating for someone like me.

Social media is brilliant.   We can communicate, connect and share with each other at lightening speed.  People we have never had access to in the past.  Seth Godin says we are now in the connection economy, and I agree.

Now that I make a concerted effort to thank the people who have changed me, I want to thank YOU.  You who keep showing up and reading my blog daily even though I’m new and still floundering.  I made a promise to myself to do this for 2 years and see what happens.      Knowing you are going to be here makes all the difference.

I am so grateful to not be the same person I was in all of my yesterdays.

Thank you for helping me❤️.
