When we are coming up against a problem we tend to believe that the others have a well thought out master plan or strategy.
I have been privy to several strategy planning sessions, and not once have I encountered one that was masterful in its plan.
You can go through all of the details step by step, you can try to outsmart and outwit the others, you can stay up late, get up early, practice all of the parts… and still not know what the future holds.
I’m sure there are extremely strategic people and systems out there, but for the most part I think at the end of the day, it still comes down to a gut feeling about what you should do next.
I believe the more informed you are the better, but the very final decision comes down to what your gut is telling you.
And so, I think it’s important to practice gathering information and making decisions based on your gut all of the time.
Because when everything is on the line, or when you have run out of resources, it’s all you have to depend on.
To be completely honest, the more you rely on your gut as opposed to what you think you should do… the better off you usually are. There is plenty of magic in a gut decision.
Just for today, tune into what your intuition is telling you all day long. What feels right? What doesn’t feel right? Should you take a new route? Should you order the same drink or a different one? What should you speak up and say?
All day long, do a quick “gut check” to make every little decision. You never know, maybe you will end up somewhere you wouldn’t have otherwise… and if nothing else, you’ll be practicing for another time when it’s all you have to go on.
