Life is a game.
And the long game needs to always be considered. This is something I didn’t realize when I was younger.
Making decisions and taking action that my future self will thank me for has been a game changer.
When you know that it’s going to be painful in the short term, but payoff in the long game then it makes it a whole lot easier to do hard things.
But recently I’ve discovered that we need to be working the short game and the long game at the same time.
And it’s best when they line up with each other. But they don’t always.
Sometimes we are making a decision that is strictly for the benefit of the short game because it’s necessary. As long as its not hurting your long game it’s fine.
We have watched a lot of businesses pivot through covid. Are making masks or the directional arrow stickers on the floor a long game choice?
I hope not.
But someone needed to fill the gap. And maybe that helped them stay afloat to carry on with the long game.
This isn’t just a business strategy but it applies everywhere.
Always make decisions while considering both the benefit and the poor effects to the long game and the short game
