It’s important to realize we are hard wired for making progress.
If we weren’t we would still be cave men.
On a larger scale we have built cities, over done the industrialization of everything, and are blasting through new technology faster than the blink of an eye, because we are hard wired for progress.
On a smaller scale we learn to crawl, and then we learn to walk. Imagine a world where we never cared to start moving in the first place.
Progress has been misidentified as achievement and because we get accolades for achievements, our egos have become involved.
Because of this confusion and ego involvement, we fear failure, because we think we will be ostracized from the tribe if we aren’t making incredible achievements.
We worry about what other people are thinking because if we aren’t achieving big things we don’t feel seen.
But progress is the small things when it’s ours. It’s minutia, and it’s nuanced, and it’s part of our journey.
If helps to understand progress makes us feel good when we focus on it. Progress brings us happiness because we are hard wired for it.
We are also hard wired for love.
When we are hard wired for something it takes our own personal action to reap the rewards of all of the “feels”. It doesn’t mean someone else does it for us.
The reward of a life well lived comes from aligning with what we are hard wired to do.
Look for where you’ve made progress and focus on where you can do better.
It’s what you were made to do.
