Sara Blakley is the founder of Spanx. A company she started 20 years ago at the age of 28.
She’s a billionaire now.
I have been following her for a while. I love the way she runs her company and you can’t help but love her enthusiasm for life. She’s started her own personal brand and she’s really starting to get noticed.
She has her own Masterclass, she was just on stage with Tony Robbins at his business mastery program, and she shares bits of wisdom on her Instagram account.
When I read Shoe Dog over the holidays (Nike’s founder Phil Knight wrote it – if you like a good entrepreneur story then read it. It’s gold), he closed the book with a quote from the movie The Bucket List.
“Measure yourself by the people who measure themselves by you.”
On Sara Blakleys Instagram account I see people who I admire like Brene Brown, Richard Branson, Amy Porterfield and Marie Forleo commenting on her posts and telling her how much they admire her.
That’s a great crowd to be measuring yourself by. I think I would be feeling pretty awesome in her shoes.
I like this marker. It has a competitive and edgy feel to it… but it also is a measurable sign of who you are inspiring and the impact you are making in the world.
It seems like it’s a worthy goal to be striving to get some names on the list of people who you look up to that begin to measure themselves by you.
