The summer went by so quickly, it’s hard to believe fall has arrived and even harder to accept there was a skiff of snow on the ground when I woke up yesterday.
I always joke about what a terrible Canadian I am and how I should have been born Hawaiian.
I am always cold (except for when I’m pouring sweat from having a hot flash, but those are still relatively new to me and completely sporadic so I don’t count yet).
I don’t really participate happily in any winter sports. I find everything in the winter harder to do. You have to wear more clothes, you have to warm up your vehicle, scrape and shovel snow, and driving can be dangerous.
I love the warm temperatures, the ocean, the beaches, and palm trees.
I’ve never felt really patriotic, as a matter of fact I used to feel that Canada was always behind the 8 ball compared to the United States, “the land of opportunity”.
As I grow older, my appreciation has changed and I would be remiss not to mention the good things about my homeland.
Our country is beautiful. From the mountain ranges and lakes, the prairies and the foothills, it truly is stunning.
We are safe here, and that’s becoming more and more valuable every day… it is heartbreaking to think that Paris, the city of love, has come under attack several times, and I feel so grateful for the safety we still have in Canada.
We generally have the friendliest, (most apologetic) and welcoming people you will ever meet.
We have wide open countryside where farmers and ranchers use the land to make a living, while the rest of us get to enjoy the views (and the baby calves in the spring).
The only thing holding us back from pursuing our dreams or the life we want is our own fears and insecurities.
Our air is clean.
We don’t have hurricanes, or earthquakes, or active volcanoes.
The internet has given us access to everything else in the world.
At the end of the day, the truth is I love Canada and I’m blessed to live here.
