Sometimes problems can feel so huge they take over our lives.
I’ve been there. It is awful. Day after day I would wake up with an anxious knot in my stomach.
This is what happens when you aren’t living a life of being true to yourself, no matter what your reasons for doing it. It begins to affect you physically.
I didn’t have the coping skills to handle the stress of living that way. I’m not sure anyone does to be honest. I assumed I would learn the skills in time. But in the end all I learned was that you can’t do it. That was a better lesson anyway.
However, I did find a strategy to break free of the grip of anxiety for the moments I couldn’t take that stress anymore. Although those terrifying moments have almost entirely ceased to exist, I go back to my strategy for more normal everyday problems.
I conjure up the image of being on a plane and coming in for the landing. If you look down at the right moment, you can barely see the hundreds of tiny micro sized cars driving on the freeway. Inside each of those cars is an even smaller person you can’t see.
Every one of those people you can’t see, thinks their problems are the biggest and bigger than yours.
Perspective helps so much. Just to remember we are but a tiny spec on the earth. A drop in the ocean of time and space. Not even a spec of dust in the universe.
What feels huge and earth shattering to us today, won’t be written in history, only your immediate circle of people today have the potential of knowing about it, or possibly being affected by it… and most of them won’t understand or care anyway.
Use this to get through those moments. Later, you can sort out what is causing this craziness in your life and work on fixing, or removing or healing that underlying issue.
Life is not supposed to be like that. All of the craziness is just some tough love from the universe, trying to move you in a different direction.
So move.
And know that life is too important to taken too seriously.
