Listen closely to the people around you.
Whenever something upsets them, they become totally self absorbed.
Most sentences begins with “I” as they desperately try to describe how they feel and how they have been so wronged.
“I was….”
“I didn’t….”
“I felt…”
“I wanted…”
“I am….”
“I couldnt…”
“I can’t…”
“I had to…”
And most of the other sentences begin with “he”, “she”, or “you” as they blame another person for making them feel the way the way they do.
This is pretty much the whole conversation as they switch back and forth between the two.
This wasn’t something I had ever noticed until I saw it in myself.
I was in a really bad place leading up to Christmas last year. All I could focus on was myself and I was having a really big pity party.
I stumbled across a Tony Robbins quote that turned it all around for me in an instant.
“The reason you’re suffering is because you’re focused on yourself”
Since then I realized how true it is.
Every time I am suffering inside, I am using “I” sentences, and blaming someone else.
As soon as I really open myself up to how everyone must be feeling and quit worrying so much about myself… the suffering i feel inside instantly diminishes.
That’s when I started to notice it in other people.
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
We suffer because we are only focused on ourselves.
Change your story, change your life.
