For so many years I resisted structure. I felt it was confining and restrictive. I love to be spontaneous and carefree.
I was wrong about structure. It doesn’t take away your freedom, used properly it gives you more.
Boundaries are a form of structure… for you and for the other person.
Routine is a form of structure and helps with productivity.
A well run meeting has structure and an event that flows well has structure.
I’ve learned that as long as I allow for unplanned spontaneous activities, my life has less stress because I’ve created boundaries to allow what’s ok in my life, I’m using routine to keep up with daily tasks, and I use my productive time better.
I’ve turned it around now so that the worst days are the ones without structure. I flounder and don’t get anything done…at the end of the day I feel like I’ve wasted it and there ain’t nobody got time for wasted days 🙂
