There is a dual reality happening all of the time.
In one reality our view is small and scrutinizing, and the issues and obstacles in our path are magnified. We think the next step or event is going to either make or break us and it puts us on a rollercoaster of emotions. Our blinders are on and we can only see what’s happening right in front of us.
We need this view to look after our current reality. It’s helpful for daily tasks and short term decisions, but it’s dangerous to make big decisions and switch gears in this space.
The other reality, happening in synchronicity to the first, is wide and expansive. What looked like mountains up close begin to look like hiccups in the journey. We gain an understanding of okay-ness even during the rough spells. Our faith and trust deepen because we begin to see we are part of something greater than ourselves and what we are facing.
This is the view we need in order to do hard things. It’s through this view that we can make life, and lifestyle, changes because we can see that the next thing isn’t going to be the end, everything in front of us is temporary. In this space we know that there is room for trial and error because the journey is long.
It’s not helpful to look at daily tasks from the big picture view. You still need to pay bills, buy groceries, and complete errands.
We become stuck in short term realities because that’s where the day to day stuff happens. But the magic happens when we keep our eye on what’s happening in the big picture because that’s what makes the day to day stuff worth it.
Exploring your choices between the short and scrutinized view of life and the wide and expansive view helps you filter out what is important and what isn’t.
When you master the skill your life begins to take shape.
