I will small talk, but only for a short amount of time before I want to know how you really are, or what’s really happening in your life.
The hardest conversations for me are the ones where people tell me everything is good, but have no substance behind why they are good or what’s so good.
The next hardest conversations for me are the ones where we dance around each other instead of with each other in the conversation.
Dancing around is being politically correct at all times, hinting at something but never really diving in, skirting the questions that are uncomfortable, and eluding the truth that comes from your heart.
I love to ask the hard questions, I love the thoughtful truth, and I love the searching that takes place, the light bulb moments and the clarity that comes in these conversations. This is how you dance with each other.
There is trust, there is truth, there is a give and take in the lead, and there is flow.
While sometimes it’s fun to dance alone, it’s way more fun to dance together.
