Did you ever watch the movie City Slickers? The one part of the movie that sticks out in my mind is where the old cowboy Curly is giving the city slicker Mitch life advice…
Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger] This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean s***.
Mitch: But, what is the “one thing?”
Curly: That’s what you have to figure out.
We are not meant to bumble through life with no passion or purpose.
I think we each come with a blueprint for this life and guideposts to follow it. We are designed to live by the blueprint.
But life is hard, and somehow things get in the way and somewhere we stop listening to the cues we receive to reach our needs.
At some point we “grow up” and stop screaming for milk.
A couple of months ago my dad sent me one of my favourite quotes.
The two most important days in a persons life are the day they were born and the day they find out why. ~ John Maxwell
There is so much power in those words.
I’m not really sure I know my why yet, I spent far too long living by someone else’s values and it took me way off track, sometimes I feel like I’m on track and sometimes I’m trying to find my way back.
Staying on track is the key… someone’s else’s values might seem like an easier ride, but they won’t get you were you need to go.
Have you figured out your one thing? Have you found out why you were born?
“All of it is life. All of it is precious. Don’t waste any of it doing anything you don’t want to do. And do all of it with the people you love.” ~ Richard Branson
