It took me a long time to understand that there is a constant narrative running through my head.

Usually it’s telling a story but sometimes it’s twisting reality ever so slightly in order to justify what’s happening in the moment.

I didn’t realize how powerful this narrative is until I started questioning the validity of it.

Sometimes what I think is impossible is just the way I’ve framed the story.

Sometimes what I think is awful, is because of the lens I’m looking through when telling the story.

Sometimes when I think something is brilliant it is because of the way it lines up with other story elements.

I could choose to tell a story of my past that paints me as the victim. I’ve got the evidence to back it up.

But instead I have chosen to build a story about perseverance and about standing tall. I have decided I want to learn and grow and be better and I have used the moments I could have played the victim in as teachers and tests to see where I’m at and how I’m doing.

When you choose how you are going to tell the story of your life, use a theme you are proud of, and wrap every choice around that theme.

Will you be the victim of circumstances that were beyond your control?

Or will you be victorious because you always chose to do the best you could with what you were given?

It’s all in the way you shape the story.
