I’ve made one vision board in my life. That’s it. Just one. I’m still working on manifesting what’s on it.
That’s not to say I haven’t done vision work.
I am a strong visionary. I create pictures and images of almost everything in my mind without even trying. In fact it came so naturally to me I was in my forties before I even realized I was doing it. And a stranger is the one who told me!
That’s a story for another time.
But what is important here is the power that having a very clear vision for your life brings you.
Your vision gives you a dopamine hit every time you bring it up. Dopamine is what motivates you. When you lose passion or purpose it’s a sign that your vision has either been forgotten or isn’t clear enough. It will literally pull you through all of the hard parts (and there are always hard parts).
Your vision keeps you focussed. Without it you get distracted and run on pre programmed thoughts and conditioning. You lack intention and wind up going in circles without even noticing.
That brings us to the next point. Your vision keeps you moving forward. And since we are hard wired for progress, moving forward makes us happy. Learning, growing, progressing… every person is happier when they are progressing.
You may be wondering how you make a clear vision.
It’s not hard, but it does require a bit of discipline to do it because having clarity on anything takes some “work”.
All you need to do is sit down and write in vivid detail a day, from start to finish, ten years from now.
Write about the way the sheets on your bed feel, the way the floor feels under your feet, what you see when you look out the window, what you drive, all people, pets, plants you see. Describe yourself, your work, your emotions, your vehicles…. ever single thing about the day.
And as you write let yourself feel everything.
Every time you bring up that vision in your mind, also recreate the feelings that come up in you.
This one exercise will change your life. The more you bring it up, the more your refine it and fine tune it, the more you meditate on it and experience it, the more you will start to believe in it.
Trust me, it works. You just have to be disciplined enough to do it, and committed enough to keep thinking about it whenever things get hard while in pursuit of it.
