Stop the spread they say…

They keep telling us this virus spreads exponentially. Maybe they are right about that. Lord knows there are a lot of people who believe it. But I question the accuracy of the numbers.

I’m sure everyone is doing the best they can, but I just can’t see how they could ever know the truth. There is a lot of room for human error here, and I’m not sure everyone is accounting for that.

I’m not inclined to follow fear mongering so trying to decipher what the numbers are telling us when we aren’t able to get all of the information is a nightmare at best.

We will never know the real story because there is no way to track it.

The good news is you get to choose what you believe about all of this and as long as you remember that, and you’re making good choices for yourself, then that is enough.

But there is something out there that is spreading further and faster than the virus. You already know it, but I bet you haven’t compared them to each other. Because they are not the same… except they kind of are.

The fear, and the social shaming has been rampant and it spreads lightening fast.

Faster than any virus could ever spread.

Yes, we are worried about lives being lost. Every life matters and everyone is somebody’s someone.

But the speed at which fear and shaming spread is more concern for me. As far as I can tell it is damaging more lives than the virus, it affects more people, and it doesn’t discriminate based on age.

I think we can use social distancing to prevent the spread of the fear and the shaming.

I think we can wash our hands of the doom and gloom.

And I think we can all pay a little more attention to what is triggering us and do some work to flatten the curve.

So the next time you read something, or share something, or judge someone else’s actions, or make a rash decision based on what you are seeing, it might be a good idea to pause, take a step back, and wash your hands.

No matter what is happening out there, we must keep our thoughts, and emotions, and reactions, in the light. We now have a few new tools in our toolbox that we can use to do it.
