A lead mare is the horse in the herd that tells all of the other horses what to do and where to be.
There is always a lead mare, someone always steps up to the job.
Horses need a leader, this is how they feel safe. They trust the leader to take care of any threats or emergencies.
When they trust you as their leader they are calm and docile while they are with you. These are the horses we love to be around, they support you in whatever you decide to do, they would run through a brick wall for you.
If you haven’t established yourself as the leader, the horse takes over the leadership role. It’s instinct, they have to have a leader. These horses are scary to be around, they do what they want, they are on high alert and not typically paying any attention to your existence.
Life works the same way.
We can lead or be led by life.
If we choose to lead we have to get out in front, decide what we want and where we want to go and start moving forward to get there, and life supports us and guides us and will move mountains for us.
If we choose to be led by life, we are pushed, bumped and prodded by life to keep us moving along.
I used to think I could only grow through pain and struggle, but now I’m seeing that the pain and struggle was life taking the lead because I wasn’t.
While pain and struggle are some of the best teachers, I’m learning that I can grow exponentially faster with a desire to keep moving forward and listening to the whispers which help keep me on track.
Lead or be led.
