Sometimes it’s hard to walk the high road.
It’s really hard when another person isn’t taking the high road, and it seems like things keep going their way.
They lie, and people believe them.
They bad mouth others, and people buy into it.
They take, and they end up with more.
It’s really hard to watch these people surge ahead when you know the truth behind the scenes.
It’s really hard not to retaliate, or defend, or stick it to them when you get the chance.
I used to do the right thing because it was the right thing… but there were times I was bitter about it.
I was bitter because all I could see in front of me was short term gain by the other person.
That kind of short term gain that made me feel like I was losing.
That kind of short term gain is hard to argue against, I could see it working with my own eyes.
The part I had never experienced before was that the short term game doesn’t last forever…even though it lasts much longer than it should.
It took years before I began to see the compound effect of the short game versus the long game, but then I started to realize why it’s become cliche to take the high road.
Playing the long game gives you morale ground to stand on.
It gives you credibility. It builds trust. It becomes the ground on which you stand as the chips begin to fall.
Accusations and mistruths against you by short game players become ridiculous, even to you.
The community of people who support and join someone in the long game is priceless,
Without any solicitation for it, they rally for you, bend backwards trying to help, and look out for you in places you can’t be.
The universe conspires to help those who take the high road and do the right thing.
When you only take the high road, eventually the high road is what holds you up.
