When my pants are too tight I get a headache (I wish I were kidding about this), my stomach hurts and I literally feel like everything is hard because it’s hard to move.
When there is too much clutter on my countertops (there is almost always some clutter but I have my limit) I feel overwhelmed and trapped in a mess.
When my schedule has something extra on it every single day I feel tired just looking at it.
We need space.
We can’t operate well when we our clothes are constricted, and when we are closed in.
We can’t operate when we don’t have space.
It actually doesn’t take much to create space in our lives, just a little bit of conscious intention.
It may take careful selection of clothing, clearing your countertops, and managing your schedule better, but it also might be breathing in the fresh air around you. It might be taking a mini vacation in your mind so you know it’s possible.
I’ve been feeling very constricted lately (partly because almost all of my pants are too tight right now from all of those cookies I ate over winter). But mostly because I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to make things happen this year and I’ve allowed the weight of that responsibility to sit on my shoulders.
I was listening to Oprah and she talked about how effortless it is for a a grape to ripen, a rose to bloom and the sun to shine.
That is the way life is meant to happen, we are no different than the blooming rose, we just need to create a bit of space to allow it to happen.
So I started paying attention to my thoughts and choosing ones that feel more expansive to create some mental space.
A couple of days ago I wrote about trying too hard and at the end I asked the question, “what would this look like if it were easy?”
This thought feels expansive to me. So I repeat it all day long and wait for the shift in myself.
When I shift it changes how I feel inside… the tightness in my body will disappear, my awareness will expand, and a feeling of lightness washes over me.
I’m not actually looking for the answer to the easy question, although it’s a bonus if it pops up, I’m really just looking for the expanded state of being, the feeling of being the rose blooming effortlessly.
The more I look for space and pay attention to expansion and lightness within myself, the more I’m finding it.
As I walked out of my house yesterday morning, I felt lots of space around me, and I took a big expansive breath of fresh air.
We have to create the space we want to live in, but we need the space to do it.
Constriction and expansion are a mindset.
How can you create more space in your life so you can bloom effortlessly?
