I signed up to James Clear’s email list because I like to stay more connected and current with smart people.
The content he is putting out is so good, so I wanted to share part of his email from yesterday.
“When you say no, you are only saying no to one option. When you say yes, you are saying no to every other option.
No is a decision.
Yes is a responsibility.
Be careful what (and who) you say yes to. It will shape your day, your career, your family, your life.”
So good right?
We say yes to the same people over and over because we can’t or shouldn’t say no. We think we have to say yes and we don’t take into account how much it affects our whole life.
If someone doesn’t respect and work with your ‘no’, you might want to sit and think about that. Maybe they aren’t actually in your corner like you think they are.
Respecting each others agency and choice is an important part of life.
If someone isn’t respecting yours, it’s up to you to do something about that.
P.S. I recently bought the audio book Atomic Habits by James Clear on a recommendation from someone I follow online. I am really enjoying it and I think you will too. If you are looking for a book right now, definitely check his out.
