Our midwife is a very calm, grounded intuitive lady. Everything you would expect a midwife to be.
Right in the crux of hard labour, when you started feeling like you couldn’t do it anymore, Patty would say kindly but firmly “yes you can”.
Obviously I didn’t have a choice, and I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the first one to say it to her, but I remember it shifted me out of panic as soon as the words were out of her mouth.
I watched her say it to my sister when her babies were born… same thing.
3 of the most empowering words out there… yes you can.
I’ve used them with my children and with my friends and watched them find a new level right before my eyes.
Yes you can.
It’s incredible what we can accomplish when someone else believes in us and confirms that we are capable of doing the seemingly impossible when the going gets tough.
Empathy is important, but so is unwavering belief in another’s ability to make it through resistance.
Its good to be this person to others, and to yourself.
It’s important to keep these kinds of people close.
We need each other, especially when we are trying to do hard things.
