We each have our own currency for feeling significant and gaining status.
Some people use their money and buy their status by having the nicest things.
Other people find relationships where they are needed by others in order to feel important.
Some people become the class clown and become the fun loving person in order to gain status, and others fight the status quo.
We use our currency to feel important in a way that feels safe to us.
My currency was to be as likeable as I could. I thought as long as people liked me I would be significant. Generally speaking it worked for me. The catch was that it meant I didn’t show up in life as myself. I showed up as someone who I thought other people would like. There was nothing that stood out or was unique. I was generic and likeable.
We choose our currency based on our situation and our worldview. There are a million different currencies we use to feel significant and they make sense to us.
The problem is, when you are using a currency to gain significance other people can sense it. It comes across as arrogant, fake, overdone, or creepy depending on which currency you use.
The best moments are when we are ok with who we are and where we stand in life. When we don’t feel we need to gain significance or importance, and we are confident in our position. This is the goal… more significance is not the goal it’s just something we like to feel.
