I’m all about serving others.
I consciously made this choice when I set out to level up in life.
Before that I had conflicting messages about being of service and I didn’t know where I stood.
My Grandad on my moms side would literally give someone the shirt off his back. He gave everything away.
My Grandad on my dads side was a shrewd business man and he gave nothing away.
My parents were raised in those environments and although neither were to the extreme of their fathers, it left me with some inner conflict about the what and the how.
I have it sorted out and have come to a healthy understanding… which is a lesson for another day.
But what I have learned about being of service is that although it’s a beautiful ideal… it’s not where you start.
You don’t start by doing something for someone else…. you have to start with you.
Whatever you do will take some grit and determination before you cross the threshold to where things start to click and become easy.
You won’t get across that threshold by doing it for someone else… and if you do you will become subservient and lose your inner fire.
The inner fire comes from your igniter.
And when you can spark your igniter with a deep meaningful reason that will change your life…. then you will get where you want to go.
I can promise you… when you do it for you first, in a way that makes you proud and fills you up… there will be so much left over that your deeper altruistic value of service will be fulfilled too.
It will change the world and people will be affected.
But first you have to start with you.

PPS. you’ve got mail! Check your inbox because I sent out a letter this morning about a time when I had to ask someone who I was because I couldn’t remember.
